Grace Living Community of GlenOaks to share rare Saint John’s Bible Heritage Edition with community

Grace Living Community of GlenOaks is pleased to announce the Heritage Edition of the highly acclaimed Saint John’s Bible will be available for public display on their campus starting Aug. 2.  This special opportunity for Grace Living Community of GlenOaks was brought to life through a partnership between Benedictine Health System and the College of St. Scholastica, Duluth, Minn., to honor the 125th anniversary of their Sponsor, the Sisters of St. Scholastica Monastery.

The Saint John’s Bible is the first handwritten and illuminated Bible commissioned by a Benedictine monastery since the advent of the printing press more than 500 years ago. The one-of-a-kind Heritage Edition of the Saint John’s Bible is a full-size fine art edition of the original manuscript created under the direction of Donald Jackson, the artistic director of the original manuscript. Each volume received finishing treatments by hand and only 299 sets of the Heritage Edition were created.

With support from Benedictine Health System and Benedictine Health System Foundation, Grace Living Community of GlenOaks will have the Heritage Edition Volume “Gospel & Acts” for approximately two weeks. An opportunity for residents, guests, staff and the public to experience the beautiful calligraphy and fascinating illuminations, the history, the cultural influences and the faith message will be held Aug. 2-13, 1-5 p.m., Care Center Lobby. Additional information about this event can be found by calling 320-354-6074.
