Success Stories

Gary - January 2022

Our friend, Gary came to GlenOaks for a short rehab stay following an extensive hospital stay. He needed to get stronger before going home. He worked 5 days a week with our Occupational and Physical Therapy team. He was able to discharge home with his wife after 11 short days of being on campus.

A follow up home visit was completed and staff were able to review home medications and his personal glucometer. It was a pleasure to follow up in their home.

His wife told stories of how they met at her family cabin. “He looked like Fonzerelli, you know, the hair,” she said with a smile. She continued, “He had a leather jacket and he was driving his hot rod with no hood on because that was the thing back in the day.” We all laughed and enjoyed our visit.

Gary remains spunky as ever and loves to joke around. Gary enjoyed his stay here at GlenOaks stating, “The nurses are busy, but they make time for you, they are all great.” Thank you, Gary, for choosing GlenOaks! We are here to serve you!

"I Chose GlenOaks"

Verona Thompson had a knee replacement. She planned her stay at GlenOaks with priority reservations which took the worry out of a transition from a hospital into a therapy unit. She started therapy shortly after her surgery. When she first came to Grace Living Community of GlenOaks’ therapy department she was using a wheelchair and in a lot of pain. Our in house therapy team started working with Verona shortly after her arrival. Both Occupational and Physical therapy met with Verona and developed a plan to start her on range of motion and strengthening exercises. Verona has now completed her therapy sessions. Her goal was to return to her apartment and live independently which she was able to do after just a few short weeks. Verona recommends that anyone who needs therapy make an appointment with the therapists here. “The staff are all wonderful, the therapy team was great and really made me feel comfortable.” “The facility had great qualities as well. I was able to watch wild life right outside my window!” “I could not imagine recovering anywhere else. I will definitely go back!” “The staff made me feel at home even when I wasn’t.” – Verona Thompson, Grace Living Community of GlenOaks Therapy Patient 001824001r2 Verona Thompson had a knee replacement. Community Service

Our dedicated staff pick up trash to keep our community beautiful! We had a great time giving back to the community and look forward to the next opportunity!

Priya Theilen loved her Short-Stay with us!

“I have been to other nursing homes in the past and this is one of the best ones I’ve been in. The one-to-one attention you get is excellent. When we were looking for a place the U of M said that this was one of the highest rated places and they were right. People greet you by your name and they are not afraid to have fun. It’s just a very rounded experience and everything seems to be very balanced. The grounds are so beautiful too. The staff takes the time to talk to you and ask how your day has been and if there is anything they can do for you. They do a really good job answering questions and explaining about medication changes. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.”

Janelle Joneson is Thrilled with Her Therapy Results

Janelle Joneson had a knee replacement in January. She started therapy five days after her surgery. When she first came to Grace Living Community of GlenOaks’ therapy department she was using a walker and in a lot of pain.

Our physical therapist Kirstin Bergman started her on range of motion and strengthening exercises two times a week for four weeks and then was able to reduce that to once a week. Janelle has now completed her therapy sessions, has stopped using the walker and can now tackle stairs. She has achieved all of her range of motion and strength goals. She has progressed to being able to do single leg stance, balance activities and can even drive her car again.

Janelle is getting another knee replacement next year and has already made plans to return to Grace Living Community of GlenOaks’ therapy department. She recommends that anyone who needs therapy make an appointment with the therapists here.

“I can drive a car for the first time in two and a half months and I can’t imagine where I’d be without the therapy.”
